Darjeeling : As per reports, as a precautionary measure aimed at ensuring safety of tourists and locals Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) has announced a temporary suspension of all adventure tourism activities across the region until further notice. The decision comes in response to the onset of the monsoon and heightened safety concerns. Activities like trekking, paragliding, river rafting and other outdoor activities have been put on hold till further notice.
“The monsoon season in the Hills can be unpredictable and dangerous. Landslides and swollen rivers pose significant risks. We do not want to compromise the safety of visitors and residents,” said Dawa Sherpa, field director of the GTA’s tourism department. He further encouraged visitors to explore other aspects of Darjeeling’s charm, including its scenic tea gardens, colonial-era architecture and the iconic Darjeeling Himalayan Railway.
