Washington : US approach towards India has suddenly changed after PM Modi's visit at the SCO Summit in China and now US and India look ready to re-engage in trade talks. This happened after President Trump and PM Modi recently exchanged amicable messages following weeks of invective from the former and his surrogates in a bid to browbeat India over tariff issues.
Through social media US President Donald Trump said the two sides are “continuing negotiations” on the issue of trade barriers. PM Narendra Modi responded to this post of Trump, saying he is confident the parleys “will pave the way for unlocking the limitless potential of India-US partnership.”
However, in an indication there are still misgivings between the two nations, Trump simultaneously pressured EU to hit India and China with tariffs of up to 100% to force Russia to end the war in Ukraine. This came even as India is trying to conclude a trade deal with the bloc to offset the potential loss of US markets due to high tariffs and sanctions. A trade delegation from EU will be in New Delhi Friday for talks.
