Dhaka: Visiting Chairman of Pakistan’s Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, met Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus on Sunday and discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors, including trade, connectivity and defence. During the meeting, both sides emphasised their “shared historical, cultural and people-to-people ties” and expressed satisfaction over the positive trajectory of Bangladesh–Pakistan relations, according to a statement issued by the Chief Adviser’s press wing.
General Mirza conveyed Islamabad’s intent to further expand collaboration in diverse fields, noting that there was “vast potential for enhancing trade, connectivity and investment” between the two South Asian nations. “Our two countries will support each other,” Mirza said, adding that a two-way shipping route between Karachi and Chittagong had already begun operations, while a Dhaka–Karachi air route was expected to open within the next few months. The statement added that both sides also underscored the importance of reducing tensions in West Asia and Europe, reaffirming their commitment to promoting peace and stability through dialogue and cooperation.
