New Delhi: Shreyas Iyer is in hospital in Sydney and is under observation, after he had an injury while taking a a brilliant catch to dismiss Alex Carey in the third and last ODI aganst Australia on Saturday. As per news reports, BCCI has said that he is now medically stable and is being monitored on a day-to-day basis by the Indian team doctor Rizwan Khan who has stayed back with Iyer in Sydney. Reportedly, Iyer collapsed in the dressing room on Saturday after he walked back from the field and his blood pressure started falling at an alarming rate. It could have been fatal but he was rushed to the hospital in time to revive him. It has been learnt that Iyer’s parents are travelling to Sydney.
“Shreyas Iyer sustained an impact injury to his left lower rib cage region while fielding during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney on 25th Oct 2025. He was taken to the hospital for further evaluation,” BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said. “Scans have revealed a laceration injury to the spleen. He is under treatment, medically stable and recovering well. The BCCI’s medical team, in consultation with specialists in Sydney and India, is closely monitoring his injury status. The Indian team doctor will remain in Sydney with Shreyas to evaluate his day-to-day progress,” the statement added.
