New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday described the India–Russia partnership as a “pole star” that has endured global turbulence over the past eight decades, as the two countries reaffirmed their commitment to deepening economic engagement during a summit with President Vladimir Putin.
Both sides signed more than a dozen agreements and MoUs across sectors including health, migration, and maritime cooperation. They also adopted a new framework for economic cooperation aimed at boosting bilateral trade to $100 billion by 2030. President Putin said Russia was prepared to continue “uninterrupted” supplies of fuel to India, underscoring Moscow’s readiness to support India’s growing energy needs.
Calling Russia a reliable supplier of oil, gas, coal, and other resources essential for India’s development, Putin praised India’s “independent and self-sufficient” foreign policy. The Indian side reiterated that its energy partners — traditional or new — understood the importance of diversification in ensuring long-term energy security and maintaining stability in global oil prices.
