Tensions between India and Pakistan resurfaced sharply on Sunday as Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir, reignited the narrative surrounding last year’s four-day military confrontation with India, calling it “a battle between two ideologies.”

The remarks came just a day after India’s top military leadership, marking the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor, issued a stern warning to Islamabad that “no terror sanctuary across the border is beyond India’s reach.” The strong messaging from both sides has once again brought the spotlight back on one of the most intense India-Pakistan military standoffs in recent years. Speaking at a ceremony at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi to commemorate the anniversary of ‘Marka-e-Haq’ — the name Pakistan has given to the conflict — Munir claimed that Pakistan had outmanoeuvred India during the confrontation.

Munir's remarks appeared aimed at reinforcing Pakistan’s domestic narrative of victory despite reports that the country suffered significant military setbacks during the conflict, including damage to multiple air bases and the loss of several military aircraft. Islamabad, however, has consistently maintained that its armed forces successfully countered Indian operations and emerged stronger from the confrontation.
