Bulldozer Drive at Howrah and Sealdah: Dilip Ghosh Sends Strong Warning Against Illegal Encroachments
Following the formation of the new government in the state, strict action has begun against illegal encroachments and unauthorized constructions. This time, the focus of the drive has shifted to the areas surrounding Howrah Railway Station and Sealdah Railway Station. Authorities have launched a bulldozer operation to remove illegal shops, temporary structures, and encroachments that had occupied the station premises for years.
The operation comes after a strong message from state minister Dilip Ghosh. Speaking on the issue, he said, “Wherever there is illegal construction or encroachment on government land, bulldozers will be used. Since the new government came to power in West Bengal, this campaign has been underway. Those running businesses illegally should come under the legal framework. The government will cooperate, but illegal occupation will not be tolerated under any circumstances.”
According to administrative sources, unauthorized stalls and temporary constructions around Howrah and Sealdah station areas had been creating major problems for commuters for many years. Heavy congestion near station entrances and surrounding roads was also making it difficult for emergency services to move freely. As a result, the administration decided to take strict action.
However, some local shopkeepers have expressed anger and concern over the eviction drive. One trader said, “We have been doing business here for many years. If we are suddenly evicted, where will we go? The government should provide an alternative arrangement.”
Despite the criticism, Dilip Ghosh assured that the government would support those willing to conduct business legally. Administrative officials also stated that notices are being issued first, and legal action will be taken against those who refuse to vacate the encroached areas.
Sources further revealed that after Howrah and Sealdah, similar anti-encroachment drives may soon be carried out in several other important locations across the state.
