Political Tension Rises in Diamond Harbour as Suvendu Adhikari Warns TMC Leader Jahangir Khan Over ‘Pushpa’ Remark
Political tensions are escalating in South 24 Parganas ahead of the Falta Assembly by-election. Addressing a political rally in Diamond Harbour, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari launched a sharp attack on Trinamool Congress leader Jahangir Khan and issued a strong warning that has sparked widespread political debate across the state.
During his speech, Suvendu Adhikari referred to Jahangir Khan’s recent statement where the TMC leader had compared himself to “Pushpa,” the popular fictional movie character known for his fearless attitude. Reacting to that remark, Suvendu said, “Pushpa is now my responsibility. I will personally take care of him.” The statement quickly went viral on social media and intensified the ongoing political battle in the region.
The Falta Assembly constituency has become politically significant because it falls under the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha seat represented by Abhishek Banerjee. The by-election, scheduled for May 21, is being viewed as a major prestige battle between the BJP and the Trinamool Congress.
The Election Commission recently ordered re-polling in all booths of the constituency following allegations of large-scale irregularities, voter intimidation, and obstruction during the earlier polling process. BJP leaders have repeatedly claimed that democratic voting rights were denied to common people in the area for years.
At the rally, Suvendu Adhikari alleged that people in the region had been unable to vote freely for nearly a decade. He claimed that the upcoming re-election would “restore democracy” and allow voters to exercise their franchise without fear.
The Trinamool Congress, however, strongly criticised Suvendu’s remarks, accusing the BJP of using political intimidation and administrative power to target opposition leaders. BJP leaders countered by alleging that political violence and fear had long dominated the Diamond Harbour region. Political observers believe the Falta by-election has now turned into a major political showdown in South Bengal.
