Messi Kolkata Visit Controversy: Satadru Sues Aroop Biswas For ₹50 Crore
KOLKATA: The controversy surrounding Lionel Messi's potential mega event in Kolkata has now reached the court. Satadru Dutta, the primary organizer behind the initiative to bring the "Prince of Football" to Kolkata, has filed a ₹50 crore defamation lawsuit against former Sports Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Aroop Biswas. A few days ago, during a press conference, Aroop Biswas had alleged that a major black-marketing and financial fraud racket was operating under the guise of ticket bookings and sponsorships for Messi's proposed Kolkata visit, pointing at Satadru as the mastermind. The remarks triggered massive waves across the sports fraternity.
Satadru Dutta has dismissed these allegations as completely baseless and politically motivated. His legal team has filed a criminal defamation case against Aroop Biswas at the Alipore Court. "This filthy and false allegation has been manufactured with a political motive to tarnish an international, historic event like bringing Messi to Kolkata," Satadru stated. "It has not only damaged my personal and professional image but has also ruined Kolkata's reputation before the Latin American management." He maintained that the entire ticket sales process for the mega event is completely transparent and strictly adheres to international guidelines. Satadru's lawyer warned that Aroop Biswas must issue a public apology or face the consequences of paying the massive compensation amount in court.
